“Birkat HaChamah is a once-in-a-generation re-affirmation of Judaism (G-d created the world); Jewish unity (Jews get to do something together): Jewish Peoplehood (its our tradition)”
     -Shlomo Perelman, judaism.com

Once every 28 years, and always on a Wednesday morning (Yom Revi’i), in the month of Nisan, the Sages encourage Jews of all ages to go outside, see the sun, and thank G-d for the Creation of the world.

Birkat HaChamah (Blessing of the Sun), is one of Judaism’s least know and most infrequently performed mitzvot. A tradition from the Talmud (Berachot 59b) is celebrates the return of the sun, moon, constellations, and plants to their original starting point on the Fourth day of Creation.

Upon seeing the sun on April 8, 2009, all authorities agree that the following blessing is said: “Blessed are You, Lord our G-d, who renews the acts of Creation."
